After the weak, unfocused Season 2 (following a bang-up debut year when the show was a runaway hit), I had little hope for Desperate Housewives Season 3. I tuned in, and I sure am glad I “renewed my vows” with this show. Watching it on DVD, without all those annoying commercials, is just the icing on the wedding cake.
In Season 3, Susan finds new love in the hospital ward with Ian (Dougray Scott). The reason they’re in the hospital? Visiting their respective, coma-bound S.O.s. Ian’s wife dies, leaving him free to date Susan, while Mike (James Denton) regains consciousness, complicating matters greatly.
Bree (Marcia Cross) tries to rebuild her family with her new husband, shady dentist Orson (Kyle MacLachlan), whose overbearing mother (Dixie Carter) winds up living with them. When Bree’s wayward son, Andrew (Shawn Pyfrom), comes home, things really start to heat up, as the storyline throbs with more tension than a sore tooth.
Meanwhile, Gabrielle (Eva Longoria) is reeling after her bitter divorce from Carlos (Ricardo Antonio Chavira); Edie (Nicollette Sheridan) sets her sights on Carlos; and Lynette (Felicity Huffman) flirts with disaster when a good-looking chef (Jason Gedrick) tempts her from her stable but boring marriage to Tom (Doug Savant). Then somebody gets brutally killed.
Did I mention? There are more laughs than ever.
Tongue-in-cheek and darker-than-dark comedy punctuates some really strong drama and truly mysterious storylines. The only drawback this season was less of my favorite character, Bree (Cross was pregnant with twins while shooting).
The season ended with a real cliffhanger, so now is the time to pick up this DVD and refresh your memory before Season 4 begins!
